Noise Response

When you train a Basset Hound, you need to consider what type of dog you ultimately want. Is he going to be just part of the family or are you using him for hunting as well? Basset Hound training is quite different based on the role your dog will play in your life. Either way, your dog will need to learn basic commands such as Leave it, Sit, Stay, Down, Heel and Come. Small daily amounts are ideal, you don't want to overwhelm this breed or their independent nature may lead them to not want anything to do with your training sessions.

Helpful Tips for Basset Hound Training

• Whether you are leash training or field training, do not let your Basset Hound off his leash until you are 100 percent sure that he will come back. These are hunters and if they pick up a scent, they will follow it. Work your way up from a leash to a long training rope to a fenced in area.

• Constantly remind your dog you are the leader. Training sessions don't have to end just because they're out of puppyhood. Make your dog sit before being permitted to go outside, teach him new tricks and commands. The more you tire them out mentally and physically, the less likely they will get bored and destroy your home and garden when you're not looking.

Basset Hound training does not need to be as challenging as everyone says that it is. These are special dogs and when you train a Basset Hound properly, they can be the perfect pet for any household.
