Shih Tzu Behavior – What You Can Expect from One of These
Tiny Companions
Just like people, dogs’ personalities vary from one to another. However, when it comes to a Shi Tzu’s
personality, there are several things you can count on.
In their homeland of China, Shih Tzu’s are called “little lions” because they are small dogs with a big
attitude. If you needed to sum up a Shih Tzu’s temperament in two words, you couldn’t ask for a better description
than that! These dogs are cute and cuddly, but they are also incredibly tough.
When it comes to a Shih Tzu’s temperament, it’s best to think of them like small children. Shih Tzu’s do not
like to be left alone for long periods of time. In fact, if you’re the type of person who is away from home most of
the time, you will wind up with a very unhappy Shih Tzu. Instead, these dogs absolutely love it when you give them
attention and praise. In fact, you can count on Shih Tzus to demand attention and praise!
That’s why a Shih Tzu isn’t the best choice for a house that has small children living in it. Because Shih Tzu
behavior so closely resembles that of young kids, you might wind up with everyone fighting for your attention!
However, Shih Tzus are great around older kids and even other pets.
One of the best traits of a Shih Tzu’s personality is its loyalty. These dogs really are tiny companions. They
want to be with people and other animals at all times. In fact, these dogs are great for people who work at home,
or who spend a lot of time at home.
If you take one home with you, what kind of Shih Tzu behavior can you expect?
- Shih Tzus are incredibly energetic. When you have a Shih Tzu, personality is the name of the game. These dogs
will happily run around and take part in whatever you’re doing. Shih Tzus love to play, and they can even be
downright mischievous when they’re running around.
- Shih Tzus are very smart. If you’re looking for a dumb dog, you definitely don’t want a Shih Tzu! That’s why
Shih Tzu behavior can cross over into the mischievous side. They are smart enough to try and fool you! As an added
benefit, though, these dogs can pick up commands quickly.
- A Shih Tzu’s temperament is a happy one. You can count on these dogs to be friendly and affectionate. They
will always be happy to see you, and they will miss you terribly when you leave. Give a Shih Tzu affection, and he
will be yours forever!
- Shih Tzus are also great watchdogs. They might be small, but don’t tell them that! Shih Tzus won’t hesitate to
bark at strangers. When you have a Shih Tzu, you don’t have to worry about anyone sneaking up on you. A stranger
passing by or someone knocking on the door will have their full attention – and they will tell you all about it.
However, their bark is worse than their bite.
A Shih Tzu’s personality can be summed up in three words: fun, fun, fun. If you’re looking for someone to cuddle
and have fun with, you can’t go wrong with a Shih Tzu.
